BOXIO

What is BOXIO?

Somewhere around 2017, in a workshop in Rostock, Germany, a small team got stuck on a pretty obvious question nobody had really solved: why is the toilet always the worst part of life on the road? BOXIO makes composting toilets, portable sinks and camp gear built for RV life, van life and everywhere off the grid — no water hookups, no shore power, no dump station required. That first toilet, built under the name Duschkraft GmbH, has grown into a whole system for staying comfortable wherever the pavement ends. Same idea today as it was on day one: less time hunting for hookups, more time watching the sun go down over camp.

Four products. One simple idea.

The composting toilet keeps liquid and solids apart from the moment you use it. That's why it never smells like a chemical toilet, and why it never needs a drop of chemicals to begin with. Ask anyone who's woken up at a quiet, off-grid spot miles from the nearest dump station why that matters — they'll tell you it's the difference between roughing it and just living out here.

The portable sink is just as simple. Wash up, rinse off, brush your teeth, right at your tailgate or your camp table, no fixed plumbing anywhere in sight. After a long, dusty stretch behind the wheel, those five minutes at the BOXIO WASH might be the best part of your whole day.

The camp stove runs on one gas canister, nothing else. No cords, no draining your house battery down to nothing. Somehow the first coffee of the morning just tastes better when there's a view of the mountains and nothing plugged into anything.

And the passive cooler keeps things cold with zero electricity — no compressor humming all night, no battery to babysit. Pack the reusable ice pack for the longer runs. At the end of a hot day on the road, a cold drink out of the BOXIO COOL is usually the thing you've been thinking about since noon.

One system, built to grow with you

All four run on the same Eurobox format — a stacking-crate size used well beyond BOXIO, so if you've already got crates or a drawer system going, ours will most likely just slot right in. What you buy today expands later, piece by piece, without ever forcing you to tear out and rebuild the whole setup.

That's the real difference from grabbing a standalone toilet or sink somewhere else: with BOXIO, every piece is built to work with the next one from the start. Some people start with just the toilet for weekend trips and never need more. Others build all the way up to the full BOXIO SANITARY setup — toilet, sink, mirror, shower and a privacy tent, packed into two Euroboxes — because their rig, their cabin or their truck camper needed an actual bathroom, not a bucket behind a curtain.

Built for RV life, van life and everywhere off the grid

BOXIO ends up in a lot of different rigs, and it shows in who's writing in about it. Teardrop owners running it as backup after they've winterized their lines for the season. Micro truck campers where every cubic inch is spoken for and a stackable, right-sized system is the only kind that actually fits. Converted vans where the toilet and sink need to vanish into a cabinet the second you're back on the highway. Off-grid cabins and tiny homes running with no plumbing to begin with — and no plans to ever add any.

What all of those setups have in common is the one thing BOXIO was built around from the very first box: no hookups, no dump station, no shore power required. Whether you're weekending in a travel trailer or living in a van full-time, that's the one promise that has to hold up, every single time, wherever you end up parked for the night.

Frequently asked questions

What is a composting toilet, exactly?

BOXIO's toilet is a dry, urine-diverting toilet — the simpler, odor-free alternative to a traditional composting toilet. It separates liquid and solids right at the point of use instead of letting both collect together in one tank, which is exactly what keeps it low-odor without needing any chemicals.

Does it smell?

No — and that's usually the first thing people notice. Because liquid and solids never mix, there's nothing sitting around to create odor in the first place. Customers trying a separating toilet for the first time are consistently the most surprised by this.

Will BOXIO work in my RV, van or truck camper?

In most cases, yes. The compact Eurobox format is built for tight spaces — RVs, travel trailers, truck campers and converted vans included. Exact fit depends on the bundle and the space you're working with, so check the dimensions on each product page if you're really tight on room.

Do I need electricity or a water hookup?

No. Everything runs mechanically or on gas. The only thing that ever needs refilling is the sink's water tank.

What litter goes in the toilet?

Something absorbent that binds odor, like our BOXIO Hemp Litter — sized to fit the toilet and available as a refill bundle whenever you run low.

Take a look around — whether it's the composting toilet, the portable sink, or the full SANITARY setup, there's usually something built to fit wherever you're headed next.
